Thursday, November 19, 2009 i feel so incredibly lucky to have such amazing friends, friends who see me with all my faults and point out all the wonderful things about me when i forget to see them and friends who are really there for me when my life feels fragile and difficult to handle even when they are dealing with their own fragile difficulties.
i have never ever really had that you know, not until recently. when my life crashes, i do this thing where i hide away, i curl into myself and hide in the darkest part of my closet but because i have to keep it together for those around me, i totally project a smiling optimistic girl who seemingly has it all together. Really all i want is for someone to come and wrap their arms around me and say it will be okay. sometimes life is too hard to step out and ask for support when i need it the most but you know I've been burned in the past so its double hard.
last month when my father was in the hospital, well, that was one of those times and to my utter wonder, i had a few friends who got it, who stepped up and wrapped their arms around me. i don't know if they truly understand how amazing that was for me, how that had never really happened for me before outside of my immediate family. thank you my friends, you light my world brighter.
i think sometimes people perceive me to be stronger than i am and to realize that there are a handful of people on this earth who totally get that i am not, wow. my heart is full.
do you know what else really makes my heart full. watching my friends come alive and bravely take the seeds of their ideas and make them reality. did i mention that i have some darn talented friends out there. because i do.
like kristen, isn't she pretty?
(canon eos a2 / tri-x film)
not just a pretty face, she is also my polaroid soul sister ...
(canon eos a2 / tri-x film / the pola she shot)
and a genius when it comes to artistic ideas. I cannot tell you how many amazingly creative ideas this woman has. She blows my mind.
Want to see one? Its an amazingly special one because it includes polaroids AND take out fortunes. Sounds brilliant because it is ... and here is one of my favourites,
She is selling these original polaroids, what she calls her outtakes, these beautiful take out fortunes at her new shoppe, Violet Hour Photography and there are only 25 originals so get them while you can I say. I am still trying to figure out an angle for buying one because these surely must count as art supplies in some beautiful alternate universe.
Personally, I think they would make fantastic stocking stuffers or presents to hide in cards *shameless hint hint.
How lucky am I to have friends who have incredibly big open hearts, friends who are giving and loving and so incredibly talented. yeah baby.
(and that is yet another day of nablopomo)

You are very lucky indeed, mi amor, I know what it is to smile and be brave and be not be seen at the same time... to have no one to lean on. I am comforted you have such friends in your corner, you should because you are beautiful, flaws and all.
Kristen is a very talented lovely, she shines, and you have taken the time to ensure we all see her - that is a beautiful friendship, indeed.
:-)
(((hugs))),
love,
me
I get this. I SO get this. There are so many of us out there, burned by a past we cannot forget, silenced by fear, putting on that brave face but wanting more. So much more. I get this. Thanks for putting it out there. And Kristen IS beautiful, on the inside and outside!
I do know just what you mean here...I sometimes feel like this too. The hiding, the curling up inside. Oh ya.I find now that I just tell myself that it's okay to go here. Somehow it helps with the moving through it. I think the true strength comes from being able to carry these fragile parts of ourselves, being sensitive to them, but not being paralyzed by them.
And Kristen...ah, Kristen...yes...:-) Beautiful...funny(I've had many a Facebook status chuckles) and talented...I admire her creativity, and I love that picture of her with her Polaroid camera.
Here's to the beauty of friendship! I think you two make a fantastic twosome...
xoxoxo
#6 is totally my favorite...I spotted it first thing...and Kristen is all that and more...truly.
Is that the "B.B." shot???? he he I think it is, I think I spotted him...but more important is beautiful K.
Good soul friends who get you and support you and are real with you are such a gift...a priceless gift...and we are indeed so incredibly lucky them. The unconditional love never ceases to amaze me. (probably because of the past burns, which we have talked about)
I love you honey...you are a bright beautiful loving sun in my world. xoxo
i think people are drawn to you like bees to pollen & hummingbirds to sweet nectar. because you are so bright and beautiful and creative and shiny... and yes, so is she.
i adore both of you.
I am so, so, so happy to see that dream of Kiki's become real.
PS.. excellent photos!!!! xo
You captured me in a way that makes me feel so pretty! i love that shot in St. Pat's more than I can describe. For the beauty of film, for Bokeh Bill, (hahahahah!), and for the women in the foreground...just look at her face! I knew you were an amazing photographer, but dude, you and film...this is where you are incredible. That was a great day for certain. I love you. xoxo
